Get ready for the long-distance racing season!
For returning athletes, fall is when we start to build on the endurance groundwork of the summer by pushing your lactate tolerance over some long-distance races (between 3 and 6 kilometers). To accommodate longer courses, fall events are held on winding rivers where boats will start one at a time and try to chase down the crew ahead of them…while preventing the boat behind from catching up!
Not only is racing a fun way to gauge your progress as an athlete, the challenge of longer distances also gets your physiology ready for the intensity of the spring championship season where distances are shorter (between 1 and 2 kilometers).
